Each of these logins is used to manage a different part of your HOL website.
webmaster
Your webmaster login includes a username and password.
Use this username and password when. . .
- . . .uploading your website. Use it as your FTP username and password.
- . . .you want to access the webmaster subdirectory of your website.
The webmaster subdirectory is used for checking your webstats or
for accessing your raw weblogs.
postmaster
Your postmaster login doesn't include a unique username, but it does have a password.
The only time you'll use this password is when you login to the
Mail Admin page.
Use the following information when logging in:
Master Account: postmaster
Domain Name: yourdomain.com
Password: your postmaster password
|
After you login, you can perform the following actions:
- Create new email accounts for your domain
- Delete email accounts for your domain
- Change passwords for email accounts in your domain
- Set up aliases, forwarding, or autoresponders
- Set up mailing lists in your domain
mySQL
Your mySQL username is the same as your webmaster username, but has a different password.
The only time you'll use this password is when you login to the
Database Manager page.
Use the following information when logging in:
Username: your webmaster username
Password: your mySQL password
|
After you login, you can manage your mySQL database via an encrypted web page.
Why do I have so many logins -- can I get just one?
Some organizations require seperate logins for each of these functions so that
responsibilities can be assigned to different people.
Unfortunately, we can't accomodate every organizational layout,
and it's necessary to keep these passwords seperate.
You are free to change all the logins to the same password.
You should remember that there are three seperate logins,
and changing one of the passwords later will not automatically change the other two.
What do I do if I forgot my email password?
For email passwords, you should ask the person at your company
who is in charge of the "postmaster" account.
They won't be able to tell you what your password is, but they will be able to change it.
If you're in charge of the "postmaster" account
and want to know how to change a password,
What if I lose my "postmaster", "webmaster"
or "mySQL" password?
You will need to call our Customer Service people.
They may ask for information about your company or require that they call you back to verify your identity.
Do not send us passwords via email; it is not a secure method of communication.

How do I make a web page?
First, you have to create the page on your own computer.
This requires that you either know HTML or use an HTML editor.
When your page and all its associated files (images, sounds, etc.) are ready,
transfer them to the webserver using FTP.
If you're still confused, see the next question.
Using an HTML editor is an easier way of creating web pages.
If you don't have one, you might be able to find one for free
by doing a search for "HTML editor" on
download.com.
Learning HTML will take a bit more time, but it's almost a necessity if you're going to work
on your website on a regular basis.
A good (and free) way to start learning is to do a search for "HTML tutor" on
Yahoo!,
HotBot, or
Google.
What is HTML and FTP?
HTML - HyperText Markup Language
Basically, HTML is the "code" used to describe web pages.
A webpage is sometimes referred to as an "HTML file".
Your webpages need to have either a .html or .htm extension.
FTP - File Transfer Protocol
FTP is a way to transfer files across the Internet.
You will use FTP, for example, to transfer your HTML files from your computer
(where they were created), to the webserver (where they are served to the rest of the world).
I'm still lost. Can you help?
If you don't have any experience creating a website, you may feel a bit overwhelmed.
We don't have a web consulting department, but there are a lot of sites on the Internet that can help.
Here are a few links that can get you started:
How do I upload (or publish) my webpage?
Use an FTP client with the following settings:
FTP server: mahiai.aloha.net
Username: your webmaster username
Password: your webmaster password
|
Your website should go under the public_html directory.
Scripts should go in the public_html/cgi-bin directory.
Avoid the public_html/webmaster directory.
That directory is reserved for website administration.
If you need an FTP client, you might find a free one by doing a search for "FTP client" on
download.com.
If you are using html authoring software with built-in FTP uploading
capabilities (such as Dreamweaver, Pagemager, Pagemill, etc.), you may
be asked for the full path to your web directory. This would
be:
/export/vhost/*/**/***/www/public_html
* = the top level domain your domain name is in (such as com, net, org,
edu, cc)
** = the first letter of your domain
*** = the base of your domain name, without the "www." and without the
".com" etc.
For example, if your domain is whatevers.com, then the path to your web
directory would be:
/export/vhost/com/w/whatevers/www/public_html
I noticed this webmaster subdirectory -- what's it for?
Your webmaster directory is used as an administrative area reserved by us to provide information
and services uniques to your website. Do not move, add, delete, modify, or rename any files in that directory.
To access your webmaster directory, use the following:
URL: https://secure.hol.com/~your webmaster username/webmaster
Username: your webmaster username
Password: your webmaster password
|
You can also FTP to public_html/webmaster/logs to get your raw weblogs.
Do I have access to a secure server?
Yes. A secure server is already set up to access the files in your public_html directory.
Pages that are normally accessed by the URL:
http://www.yourdomain.com/file.html
can be accessed via the secure server by the URL:
https://secure.hol.com/~your webmaster username/file.html
For example, let's say your webmaster username is "hawaii", and your website's URL is
http://www.example.com. You have a file called orderform.html
that you would like to access via the secure server.
Normally, the URL would be:
http://www.example.com/orderform.html
To access the same page via the secure server, use the URL:
https://secure.hol.com/~hawaii/orderform.html
As another example, let's say you have a script that's normally accessed by:
http://www.example.com/cgi-bin/counter
You can access the same script securely by:
https://secure.hol.com/~hawaii/cgi-bin/counter
What if I want my secure pages in my own domain?
If you prefer to have your secure pages available under your own domain (such as
https://www.example.com/orderform.html), you may purchase your own
server certificate from a Certificate Authority, and we will install it.
There will be an additional charge for this service.
If you need to have a CSR generated, please contact us at
webmaster@aloha.net.
We use Covalent's Raven-SSL and Apache.
Can I get an anonymous FTP site?
Sorry, but no.
Due to inherent security risks, we will not be offering any anonymous customer FTP sites.
All file downloads can be achieved via HTTP.
