Hawaii OnLine was born in 1993 on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The small company quickly expanded as more than 2,000 users flocked to the fledgling company.

In August 1993, the newly christened Hawaii OnLine became accessible statewide through Hawaii FYI, a statewide computer network. By November, Hawaii OnLine expanded to the Internet, and in December became the first company to bring Internet batch mail to the state.

In 1994, Hawaii OnLine offered full Internet dial-up access to Hawaii consumers. This was in addition to its successful bulletin board system and its more-than-18-gigabyte file library featuring the newest in shareware and free software titles, restaurant guides, interactive and multi-user games, statewide community events bulletin board, online shopping catalogs, business networking, and marketing services.

On April 12, 1995, Hawaii OnLine officially unveiled Planet Hawaii, one of the Internet's earliest supersites and the first in Hawaii. The site continues to evolve and remains a popular destination for on-line travelers. A proclamation marking "Planet Hawaii Day," awarded by the state of Hawaii and signed by Governor Benjamin Cayetano, hangs in Hawaii OnLine's Grosvenor Center offices in downtown Honolulu.

Today, Hawaii OnLine is the largest and fastest-growing Internet services provider in Hawaii. Together with its parent company, Pacific Lightnet, Inc., it offers a total communications solution for both business and the home, including high-speed frame-relay and leased-line connections, and long distance telephone service.
